Jenny's Story
Jenny was referred to Kim (Frontline Fife’s Employability Service) by Fife Council Revenues Team. She was working in the electronics and manufacturing sector for approximately 16 years in a variety of settings. In March 2020, client was made redundant due to Covid-19.
Although she had a solid work history, there was little to no knowledge on how to apply for jobs using technology or social media. She also didn’t have a home PC or an updated CV. Other barriers include isolation due to pandemic restrictions and physical restrictions due to arthritis in hands and spine.
Kim assisted her to update her CV, use smart technology to apply for jobs, look for work out-with manufacturing and address isolation by engaging with FLF’s Walking Group. In addition, training was given in IT (due to Covid-19 external options were limited), how to complete an application form and interview skills. Initially Jenny was disheartened by the lack of response from applications, however we supported her through this and eventually, she was invited to an interview and was formally offered a position within the NHS.
Jenny has now started her new job, is feeling less isolated, more confident and her mental health has improved. (Jenny is not the client's real name in order to maintain anonymity).
